I think you must have specific goals if you want to have results!!

As for my 2011 goals- 1) 3 days a week of exercise either at the gym or walking the crazy puppy we have. 2) Loose 8-10 more pounds. I've lost 22 since Sept of 2009, so now it's time to finish the journey. 3) Help Carson with good eating habits, and having lots of healthy food in the house, and allowing us both treats occasionally.

Re: Ok so maybe not…

Its really not a matter of how the animals are treated, and I hadn't planned on cutting out fish. Just no one in the house likes fish so I'm pretty limited. I just tried some Morningstar veggie bacon on a BLT and it was pretty good. Added some lemon cilantro hummus to it, really good.

Re: Ok so maybe not…

I'm not vegan (I don't have that kind of willpower) but I've reduced the amount of red meat we eat in our house. Once a week we will have 96% lean, grassfed beef of some type. I've stopped eating red meat outside of the house unless I know its grassfed. We basically stick to chicken and fish. I know many people who don't eat read meat, but will allow poultry and fish in their diet 2-3 times a week and eat vegan the rest of the time. Unless you have objections to the way poultry and fish are treated, I don't think you need to cut them out of your diet. Just my two cents.

Re: Diet Tips for Breastfeeding Moms

Many thanks for the info on this website, it is inspiring in the negative days of weightloss.

Re: Diet Tips for Breastfeeding Moms

Thanks for the comments! Breastfeeding in and of itself seems to be a diet-- I'm 10 lbs from my pre-preg weight and the baby is four months old (and NO I don't have "those" kind of genes).

Since finances are strained with two kids, we've turned to eating out less... WAY less. I definitely think this has helped me lose weight. I'm constantly shocked about how many calories are in the food from restaurants.

I also drink LOTS of water and stay away from soda, diet or not.

I've never heard of that app-- I'll have to check it out!

Re: Diet Tips for Breastfeeding Moms

I pumped for both of my kids for 9 months (neither would nurse effectively, even after 5-6 trips to the lactation consultant). I didn't really diet, but I made sure I drank a lot of water (I skipped the soda), ate lots of fruits and veggies and ate 4oz portions of lean protein.

Nursing, along with eating a balanced diet took off all of my baby weight, plus an additional 10 pounds. My lactation consultant gave me a long list of foods that were good for new moms who were nursing and I followed that list pretty closely. Once I stopped pumping, I went back to my pre-pregnancy diet of junk food, which has landed me where I was today (15 lbs heavier than I want to be). It wasn't ok for me to eat the stuff when I was pregnant and nursing b/c I didn't want my kids to be exposed to it, but it was ok for me to eat. What horrible logic.

Re: The Beat Goes On...

Of course we are!! I hope you're surviving with trying to feed you, the kids and Rhonda. I am still trying to kick 5 more pounds and now that I'm closer to the goal it gets harder and harder. I am trying to be more consistant with the gym, but at times it's really hard with John's schedule.

I'm not a huge tomato fan, so I'm not envious about those, but the rest would be great. I really love hitting the farmers market and have started going to Eath Fare more and more. Downtown has a great market on Saturday mornings in the spring and Carson and I usually go and pick out new things. John is nice and goes with us to carry all the goodies. :)

Re: The Eleventh Week in Review

Thanks! My original goal was 185, but I think I'm gonna shoot for 175-180. I'd like to be wearing 34 jeans when I'm done. As far as health wise, I am just looking to get in good shape for golf since my game has deteriorated due to the weight loss. I need to strengthen my core so that I can improve my ability to coil on the backswing.

I'm ok with the plateauing...its happened a few times, and its all part of the game.

Don't be green with envy yet...I am still waiting for the seeds to sprout...so far its just the 4 tomato plants that are flowering, but the leaves are curling. I was told it may be due to the extreme temperature shifts we have this time of year. On Sunday, we started off in the low 40s, but our high was 82. Hopefully I can at least get a few tomatoes before the heat of summer arrives in late May.

Re: The Eleventh Week in Review

Way to go on kicking the 200's to the curb. That is awesome!!

I'm sure the new clothes and wedding band are both motivation to continue your progress. What is your ultimate goal- weight wise and health wise?

As far as the platuea goes, you will kick it. It just takes time. I am so jealous (in a good way) of your garden. I would love one, but I have a brown thumb and the green one travels most weeks Mon-Fri.

Re: The Eighth Week in Review

Way to go on the weight loss progress and getting into the 36" pants. Those are both huge successes!!

Hopefully this week won't be too stressful for you. Take it one day at a time and you will make it. I'm sure you all are eating much better, even when you add going out to eat in the mix of things.
Life will always take a toll from time to time, but remaining focused is important.

Keep up the good work!!

Re: The Sixth Week in Review

Woo Hoo on your weight loss this week!!
